WINTER MONTHS: You can enjoy Full Moon rises from the shoreline.
Full moon rises, (and nearly full moon rises) can be spectacular in Chicago since there is 90 miles of lake on the horizon where the moon comes up. Each Full moon rise is different depending on the time the sun sets, and how clear the horizon is, but our chart at the bottom of the page tells you every day which has the right combinations of full moon, moonrise and sunset times.
It comes up out of the lake like the sun in the morning, and changes through a large range of oranges and yellows until it finally becomes bright white high in the sky. The sky needs to be at least partly clear to see this well, but even when it is a little cloudy we still really enjoy the moon rises.
These are small pictures, please click on a picture to view it in full size.
It is difficult for pictures taken from a boat to capture the rising due to the movement of the boat, but the below pictures give you a notion of what a Chicago Full Moon rising sail with Chicago Sailboat Charters is like.
DECEMBER 2013 dates:
All of the dates below are good dates to view full moonrises if the clouds permit. 100% illumintaed indicates that it is technically the full moon on that day. We suggest that you schedule your sail to depart at least 15 minutes before moonrise, and return no earlier than 45 minutes after moonrise.
